Cycling Obsession And Divorce: Is There A Link?
Cycling is many things. It can be done on your own or you can bike with the gang. It can be tribal or solitary.
It is increasingly a technological tour de force with carbon, hi tech plastics and high strength alloys all in the mix. It is environmental and ecologically sustainable. The term ‘getting on your bike’ can mean to go around the block or to packing the bike in a box and then catching the next flight to Europe to tour the Alps or the French country side.
Cycling is also a chance to network and connect. It can be recreational or purely for fitness.
The bicycle could also be considered a work of art and could be hung on the wall to be admired by all.
Amongst all these glorious things that cycling is, there is discontent in the cycling world and a tension that just won’t dissipate that threatens the peace and that is the balancing act between work, family, the partner and the personal.
It can be managed, but if you are working 60 to 70 hours a week and your partner is left with the major responsibility of the home and the children, then getting out for that bike ride on the weekend can lead to some relationship tensions that might threaten your emotional equilibrium.
So here is a funny video titled ‘Can I Go Riding‘ that highlights some of the emotions and words that can be exchanged when that weekend ride comes around.
So how do you manage the cycling with the responsibilities of a relationship and being a parent and do you still have your bike?
